In May 1918, Private Henry Johnson of the 369th Infantry fought off a German raiding party alone in the Argonne, was wounded twenty-one times, and saved the life of a fellow soldier. France awarded him the Croix de Guerre. His own country took ninety-seven years to award him the Medal of Honor.
Henry Johnson is a short film written and directed by Rory Clarke, who also stars as Sgt. Henry Johnson. Made with historical advisors that tells that night and what came after. It covers the night of May 14–15, 1918, and the homecoming. Completed 2025.
The 45 minute program compares the Filmmaking and Bronze process with a screening, conversation — followed by open Q&A. The film exists in five cuts — 5, 10, 15, 20 and 28 minutes—so the program fits a single class period, a lunchtime library slot, or a full evening.
Programming is booked for Veterans Day, Black History Month, and year-round dates.
